CONSTRUCTION has started on a new office and caretaker’s residence at the Coledale beach camping reserve as the Surf Life Saving Club moves to improve facilities.

Northern Exposure reported last October that the campground would undergo a facelift following the decision by Wollongong City Council to grant the surf club a 10-year lease.

Caretaker Steve Pinnock said the certainty of tenure meant the office could be renovated and expanded.

COLEDALE’S beach camping reserve will undergo a facelift following the granting of a 10-year lease by Wollongong City Council.

Caretaker Steve Pinnock said the area would be revegetated and the office would be renovated and expanded now the Coledale Surf Life Saving Club had certainty of tenure.

“We never had any tenure on the property up until this year,” Mr Pinnock said. “It’s like renting a house – you’re never sure what’s going to happen.

“Now it’s our asset and the committee is very motivated about looking after our asset.
