Tomatoes

WOO-HOO! to the owners of the florist shop in Helensburgh for using humour in their rivalry with the fruit shop across the road which is selling discount flowers (even offering to do "arrangements" now!). Irene and Kimberley Dunwoodie made their feelings known when they offered a tray of tomatoes for sale out the front of their shop. It might soon be stems at 10 paces!

BOO! to the hire car company which didn't show up to transport staff from Helensburgh's House Warehouse to their Christmas party in the city. Manager Michael Lapanaitis had organised a stylish restaurant at Circular Quay to celebrate the season but staff were left stranded – eventually relocating to the Helensburgh Worker's Club for festive cheer without the view.

Markets

DUE to the MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride, the monthly Stanwell Park Village Markets have been cancelled.

Regular stallholders are urged to consider taking a spot at the Festival of Flight on Sunday, November 13, or the Helensburgh Village Markets on the same day.

ABOUT 10,000 cyclists will descend on the Illawarra on Sunday, November 6, as the annual MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride raises heart rates and money for multiple sclerosis.

From the lycra-clad regulars to families doing it for the first time, riders will be pedalling for a purpose, aiming to raise $4.5 million for people living with MS.

THE People’s Padre is still active in the church, with Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery to attend the Bushland Chapel in Helensburgh this Sunday.

Cr Bradbery, who was the Minister at the Wesley Uniting Church on the Mall in Wollongong for 15 years before embarking on a political career, still conducts some services and weddings despite his hectic new schedule.

Except it's not at the beach ... it's at the CWA Hall from 7pm.
