Kay Proudlove is a singer/songwriter armed with an acoustic guitar and a bunch of wordy songs. Taking influence from artists such as Laura Marling, Katie Noonan, Darren Hanlon, Clare Bowditch, Josh Pyke and Ed Sheeran, Kay’s indie folk style is hybridised with a touch of jazz and a hint of musical theatre.

 

Thirroul Surf Life Saving Club’s voluntary patrols may have finished for the season but that doesn’t stop its members from springing in to action when required.

Club President Jeff Body and member Phil Watt were volunteering more of their free time on Sunday, Mothers Day, when Mr Watt was called upon.

While installing lights during this weekends working bee, one of many which has been conducted during the surf clubs renovation, Mr Watt was approached by a member of the public who came running in to the club advising there was a swimmer caught in a rip and being taken out sea.

Dansatori returns with a dance-theatre production choreographed by internationally renowned Eva Crainean, called "Mah-Hah-Bone" which is an expressionistic exposé of the inner mind of a victim of schizophrenia. The production treats mental illness as a spiritual rather than purely a mental disease.

 

Food Campaign @ 2515 is an initiative of Austinmer & Thirroul Anglican Churches in partnership with The Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre with the goal of supporting local people in need.

Just leave a couple of tins of food outside your door on Sunday 2nd June from 2.30pm and they will be collected for the Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre Emergency Relief Programme. If you do not receive a knock on your door, you are encouraged to still donate by dropping non-perishable food items into Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre or Austinmer and Thirroul Anglican Churches.

 

Just before winning government Barry O’Farrell made a promise to the people of New South Wales: “The next Liberal/National Government will ensure that mining cannot occur … in any water catchment area, and will ensure that mining leases and mining exploration permits reflect that common sense; no ifs, no buts, a guarantee.”

Most mines in the Southern Coalfield sit within the drinking water catchment for Sydney and Wollongong and the environmental impacts have been significant.

Thirroul railway overpass has long been a favoured spot for graffiti and tagging - Emily Messieh from Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre is spearheading a campaign involving Wollongong City Council, St Michael’s Primary School and the RMS to combat this eye-sore with alternative artwork.
